Q – Where is Davis HS located?
A –Davis HS is located at 12525 Ella Boulevard, Houston, 77067. The school is across the street from Plummer MS between Spears Gears Road and Ella Boulevard.
Q –How many students will be attending Davis HS?
A –Approximately 1,650 9th and 10th graders will attend Davis HS for the 2012 – 2013 school year. The 9th grade enrollment will be students who are entering the 9th grade for the first time in the 2012-2013 school year. The 10th grade enrollment will be students who are currently at a Davis 9th grade feeder campus and who anticipate being 10th graders for the first time in the 2012-2013 school year.
Q –When will the 9th grade campus open?
A –The 9th grade campus will open for the 2013 – 2014 school year.
Q –When will Davis HS have its 1st graduating class?
A –The first graduating class from Davis HS will be in 2015.
Q –What schools will be sending students to Davis HS?
A –Current 9th grade students who will be attending Davis HS will come from Nimitz 9, Ike 9, and a few from Aldine 9. Current 8th grade students who will be attending Davis HS will come from Plummer MS, Lewis MS, and Shotwell MS.
Q – How do I know if I will attend Davis HS?
A – If you are zoned to attend Davis HS, you should have received a letter from the District informing you that your residence is affected by boundary changes approved by the School Board due to the opening of the new high school. The letter stated that you should report to Davis HS on the first day of instruction for the 2012 – 2013 school year. You can also view a high school boundary map located on the Davis HS website, which can be accessed from the Aldine ISD homepage.
Q –I have an older brother/sister who attends Nimitz/Ike. I want to go to Nimitz/Ike. Do I have that option?
A –No. All current 8th and 9th graders zoned to Davis HS will need to attend Davis HS.
Q –I’m currently in (band, choir, theater, drill, cheerleading, ROTC, athletics, etc.). Will Davis HS offer these programs?
A –Yes. Davis HS is planning to offer the same extracurricular programs as the other comprehensive high schools in Aldine.
Q –Will Davis HS have athletics?
A –Yes. Davis HS will have athletics in every sport that is offered, just like the other comprehensive high schools in Aldine.
Q –Will Davis HS have Varsity athletics?
A – Yes. Davis HS will have Varsity Athletics. During the 2012 – 2013 school year, Davis HS will have Varsity Athletics in the following sports: Boy’s Cross Country, Girl’s Cross Country, Boy’s Swimming, Girl’s Swimming, Boy’s Track & Field, Girl’s Track & Field, Boy’s Golf, Girl’s Golf, Boy’s Tennis, and Girl’s Tennis.
Also during the 2012 – 2013 school year, Davis HS will have JV and Freshmen athletic teams in football, basketball, volleyball, baseball, softball, and soccer.
During the 2013 – 2014 school year, Davis HS will have Varsity Athletics in football, basketball, volleyball, baseball, softball, and soccer. However, because this is in the middle of a UIL alignment period, these Varsity athletic teams will not be included in a district.
Q –When will Davis HS have all Varsity athletics and be included in a District?
A –Davis HS will have all Varsity athletics and be included in the UIL realignment for the 2014 – 2015 school year.
Q –Will Davis HS have clubs and activities like Student Council, Drill Team, TAFE, One Act Play, History Fair, Science Fair, National Honor Society, etc.?
A –Yes. Davis HS is planning to have several clubs and activities in which students can participate.
Q –What are some of the Career and Technical Education classes that will be offered at Davis HS?
A –Several Career and Technical Education courses will be phased in during the first 3 years. These courses include Agriculture, Business Education, Computer Maintenance, Criminal Justice, Family and Consumer Science, Health Science, JROTC – Air force, CAD Architecture, Cosmetology, Automotive, and Construction / HVAC.
Q – Will the District provide bus service to Davis HS?
A – Yes. Bus service will be provided for eligible students based on Aldine Transportation Department guidelines.
Q –Where can I get more information about Davis HS?
A –Mr. Colwell, the Principal, will be holding informational meetings in the coming months. The meeting dates and times will be posted on the Davis HS website, which can be accessed from the Aldine ISD homepage, and announcements will be made at the students ‘current school. Notification will also be communicated through the District’s automated phone messaging system. Additionally, general information will be posted on the Davis HS website.
