Introducing The Davis Color Guard Team
All interested Davis High School students and incoming 8th graders are invited to try out for the Davis Falcon Brigade Band Colorguard! Our Colorguard program is co-ed. Dates for Auditions are Monday, May 20th through Wednesday, 22nd from after school -5:00 PM at the Davis Band Hall. Again, auditions are co-ed and any current or in-coming Davis student can audition. You do NOT have to have previous experience to join color guard regardless of your class. For more information click on this link.

Davis Teacher Rewarded For Effort
Veronica Jonhson won the John A. Baker Memorial Award for Excellence in K-12 Distance Learning. This award recognizes K-12 teachers for their work in the distance learning arena and efforts to provide more opportunities to reach students through the use of educational telecommunications and distance learning technologies. Veronica won $500 cash, complimentary registration to the Annual Meeting/Conference and Awards Dinner and TXDLA Membership for a full year.

Davis Artist Wins Big
It's official: Courtney Gonzalez was recognized in the top 40 entries at Culture Shapers in sculpture. Culture shapers is a Houston area only contest for high school students. They offer a large cash awards for their top winners; this year there were over 550 entries. Courtney decorated a found electric guitar and brought it to life in a creative way! Watch for more winners as Davis students try again in the photography and drawing categories.

Davis UIL Choir 2013
The Davis High School Choir participated in their first Texas U.I.L Region 19 Concert and Sight-Reading Competition. The Women's Choir, Men Choir and Mixed Choir all received Superior ratings in Concert. Superior is the Highest Rating you can receive in Concert or in Sight-Reading. The Women's Choir also received a Superior in Sight-Reading giving them the Award of Sweepstakes. Congratulations to the Benjamin Oliver Davis Jr. Inaugural Superior Rated Choir and our Sweepstakes awards winning Women's Choir.

The Davis Senior High School Wind Symphony competed in its first ever UIL Concert and Sight Reading Contest Wednesday April 17th at Aldine High School. After many months of steady preparation and hard work the young musicians of the Davis High School Wind Symphony were rewarded. The band brought home the first ever Davis Senior High School band sweepstakes award. All judges at the contest awarded the band first division ratings. Learn About General Benjamin O. Davis, Jr.
|
Benjamin Oliver Davis, Jr was born in Washington, D.C. on December 18, 1912, the second of three children born to Benjamin O. Davis, Sr. and Elnora Dickerson Davis. His father was a U.S. Army officer, and at the time was stationed in Wyoming serving as a lieutenant with an all-white cavalry unit. Benjamin O. Davis, Sr. served 42 years before he was promoted to brigadier general. Elnora Davis died from complications after giving birth to their third child (Elnora) in 1916.
At the age of 13, in the summer of 1926, the younger Davis went for a flight with a barnstorming pilot at Bolling Field in Washington, D.C. The experience led to his determination to become a pilot himself...
